WORK HISTORY
October 2002 -
present day:
Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Birmingham
Building bespoke front/back end applications onto an off-the-shelf CRM to cater for specific needs of various Chamber departments. This involves building new screens via a WYSIWYG editor, and coding JavaScript(client/server side), SQL statements, HTML, DHTML and CSS. Responsible for ascertaining user requirements, producing specifications, making estimates, development, demonstrating work in progress, testing, training users & writing user guides. I provide ongoing support for my software as well as existing applications. For the last 6 months, I have recently taken over maintenance of the Chamber’s websites, using ASP, IIS, SQL Server 2003, and limited ASP.Net.
July 2001 -
September 2002:
Unemployed
After redundancy from CSC, I sought employment in web development. Meanwhile I taught myself all I could about web development including FTP, search engine optimisation/submission, & cross-browser compatibility. I also learned ASP, VBScript, SQL, MS Access, and produced 3 websites.
October 1999 -
June 2001:
CSC Application Services(JP Morgan Fleming Account), Romford
Trainee programmer: hand-coded database-driven intranet applications using HTML, DHTML, JavaScript and MivaScript. Getting user requirements, coding, testing and giving demonstrations to end users. Training new users, writing user guides and providing support for applications. Main project was an Absence System I produced for a call centre.
January 1999 -
September 1999:
Job Search/Temping
Having received 4 offers of places on IT graduate schemes, I opted for a place with CSC Financial Services Group in Camberley, due to start in September 1999. In the intervening time, I temped and studied for the forthcoming training. However, CSC terminated the scheme 2 weeks before the start date. As an alternative, CSC offered me employment as a Trainee Programmer on one of their accounts in Romford which I accepted.
July 1998 -
December 1998:
The Span Consultancy (for IBM), London
IBM Trainee Programmer(2 year secondment): After 1 month's training in COBOL & an IBM induction course, my group was placed on standby, awaiting placement with IBM. Contract was then unexpectedly terminated by IBM for reasons unknown.
